Moisture can create a breeding ground for bacteria and fungi, leading to ear infections. Because of this be mindful of water going in your ears during activities such as swimming, showering, or even walking in the rain. Use earplugs or a swim cap to keep water out of your ears and dry your ears thoroughly after being in any water. 

Clean your ears regularly but avoid inserting objects like cotton swabs into your ear canal, as this can push wax deeper and increase the risk of infection. Instead, gently clean the outer ear with a soft cloth. If you feel excessive wax buildup or experience discomfort, consult your hearing healthcare professional for safe removal. 

Autumn allergies can cause inflammation and irritation in the ear canal, making it more susceptible to infections. Try to minimise your exposure to allergens such as pollen, mold, and dust. 

When doing outdoor activities like gardening, hiking, or participating in sports, wear appropriate ear protection. Earplugs or earmuffs can help reduce exposure to loud noises, which can irritate the ear canal and increase the risk of infection.
