What is Auditory Processing Disorder?
Auditory Processing Disorder (APD) is a hearing disorder in which the ears detect sound normally but the brain doesn’t process the incoming information correctly.
As a result, people with APD can have difficulty in the following areas:
- Understanding and remembering complex verbal information or instructions.
- Listening to speech in noisy settings.
- Processing and remembering spoken information.
- Learning language, spelling, vocabulary, reading or writing.
Appointment Details.
An APD assessment is specialised and takes approximately two hours.
We provide the initial Full Diagnostic Hearing Assessment as well as the APD Assessment at all our clinics nationwide.
Next Steps.
If APD is diagnosed, our audiologists will take a collaborative approach engaging with Speech and Language Therapists, Psychologists, Optometrists, Schools and teachers and Parents/caregivers to contribute to the management of this hearing concern.
